Bird Cafe
In Pyeongtaek, South Korea, there’s a place called Bird Sori—it’s a bird café! Although I’ve been to my fair share of other animal cafés, this was my first time experiencing one of the avian variety. The day I went, there were no other guests there besides the group I was with. The place was quite large, and we sat by the window with a nice view of the park across the street. You know, show those birds what they’re missing!
The staff was friendly and they brought out a few cute little parakeets to hang out at our table while we enjoyed our mandatory ‘1 drink’ and we fed them some seeds. The birds were very social and interactive (maybe too interactive because they kept creeping up and trying to eat my earrings!). There were larger birds out in the café as well that you could feed seeds and fruit to. I’m no bird connoisseur but I think they were parrots of some type. The biggest and loudest was very funny, he barked like a dog, and said hello in Korean. I shouldn’t have really been surprised that he spoke Korean considering it was a bird café in Korea, but when he said “annyeonghaseyo” it made me smile—that bird spoke better Korean than me!
I know that birds can be very messy, but the place was clean and seemed well maintained. I’d definitely go back again, especially on a bad air quality day when it’s too gross to spend time outside. On those days, I guess the birds should be glad that they’re not out in that park across the street after all.
