In the Market for Snacks!
There’s never a reason to be hungry in Korea…because there is food EVERYWHERE!! Whether you’re at a market or just out shopping, there is a good chance that you’ll run across some delicious street foods. This day, we went to Namdaemun Market in Seoul and stopped by the nearby Sungnyemun Gate (unofficially known as Nandaemun Gate). The market has tons of permanent food stalls and restaurants, but the roads are also crowded with temporary food carts. Later in the day we walked over to Myeongdong, which is a nearby popular shopping area and the streets there were also lined with food carts. Up and down every street there were a variety of foods! The great thing about snacking on street food is that they’re usually just a couple thousand won (so basically a couple bucks), and it’s a great opportunity to taste lots of different foods—from main courses to desserts! Plus, since most carts only sell one or two items, you don’t have to worry about the language barrier. It’s easy to just point at the foods to order—it couldn’t be easier. Perfect for someone like myself who loves to try all the foods but has no idea what the names of any of them are (or sometimes, what the foods actually are!) My top recommendations from the many snacks that I tried that day were the kimchi steamed bun and the cheese and veggie filled fried Korean pancake!
