Wonders in Wisconsin

Wisconsin—’America’s Dairyland’ or ‘The cheese state’

Entering the state you’re bound to see the many roadside “Cheese” stores and you may ask yourself if Wisconsin has anything more to offer than mere cheese? and yes they do….The Packers!

No, seriously though, cheese is my number one love so I personally take my cheese shopping very seriously while visiting Wisconsin, but I did experience some other interesting things there as well. The Racine Zoo had an exhibit of Chinese lanterns for the holidays that was very impressive and beautiful. I also ate at Kewpee Sandwich shop which has been a Racine favorite since it opened in 1928! They have a glorious collection of Kewpee dolls and memorabilia along with great food of course.

I ventured further north to Milwaukee and spent one night in the Pfister Hotel which was built in 1893. It is a luxury hotel with beautiful decor, victorian art, and stunning architectural details. Even if you don’t stay here, it’s worth walking through to see the stunning ceiling painting in the lobby.

Of course no trip to Wisconsin would be complete without a visit to one of my favorite places on earth…the Mars Cheese Castle. Right off the highway in Kenosha you’ll see their giant sign luring you to the motherland—the place where all your dairy dreams can come true. Sure there are other cheese stores but the Mars Cheese Castle has my heart (and my wallet because I can never get out of there without spending about $70 on cheese). They’ve got it all—the curds, the whips, the spreads, the cheddars, the summer sausages, the kringle, the wine, the beer, and of course the cheeseheads!
