Poop Cafe? Don't mind if I Do...doo

If you stop and think about just how popular the poop emoji is, the fact that this café exists probably doesn’t seem that surprising. Out of the 2,800+ emojis, that cute little pile of doody has made its way onto a range of items, including clothing, pillows, bags, balloons, coffee cups, and even lip balm! Why is the world so poop obsessed? I guess because it’s a part of everyday (maybe every other day) life for every human, everywhere.

So, I’m proud to share my trip to the “Poop Café” in Insadong, Seoul with all the other poop emoji fans out there. The real name of the café is Ddo-ong Café (you can find them at  www.facebook.com/ddoong.cafe/) and it is located on the fourth floor of the Ssamziegil Mall. The mall itself is pretty cool and worth a visit on its own. It has tons of cute little stores selling handicrafts, jewelry, and art.

When you hit the top floor and before you even enter the café, you start to experience the bathroom ambiance. There is an old toilet bowl turned into a planter outside of the elevator, the menu outside on the café windows showcase their food options available in small toilet bowls, and there is a food stand selling warm, chocolate filled poop-shaped snacks.

Once inside, the theme escalates—toilet mugs for hot drinks, painted turd cartoon decorations, stool pillows on the seats, paper poop ornaments hanging from a tree, and even a giant crap character decorated with flies! Does all this make you hungry? If it does, maybe you should try some spaghetti, or curry served to you in a small toilet bowl, or perhaps a nice mound of chocolate soft serve ice cream. Lost your appetite? Well that’s ok, you can always leave with an inedible memento like a poop keychain or ceramic figurine. At the very least, you should get a selfie with the giant poop. I mean, you wouldn’t want your visit to be a total ‘waste’!
